We’re always keen to hear from prospective members – particularly tenors and basses!
Membership of Hertford Chamber Choir is separate to membership of Hertford Choral Society and is subject to an audition. Initially set up for 30 voices, we have increased our membership to 36 singers and therefore currently have availability for sopranos, altos, tenors and basses.
As an audition, we ask you to send in a recording of you singing a song of your choice. The most important skills we are looking for are whether you are able to sing in tune and whether your voice is likely to blend well in a small choir. If you are not quite there yet, we will want to encourage you to work on your singing technique and audition again later in the year, subject to spaces available in the choir.
Rehearsals for Hertford Chamber Choir are held once a month for a full Saturday (10am-4pm, with breaks), and singers will be expected to learn their part between rehearsals so that rehearsal time together is spent working on the interpretation of the music and creating a professional sound.

Subscription fees from singers are used to cover the cost of rehearsals and music, together with some modest contribution from performance income. The subscription for the 2022-23 season (September-July) is £250 to £300 with £250 a minimum payment and if you are able to afford more, £300 would be great. A reduced membership fee is payable for members who join at different points throughout the year. Singers invited to join have the opportunity for a first rehearsal free of charge as a taster.
